Abbey Vergone and Coach, James Hornby
Last
week some of the best swimmers in the state, including multiple Olympians,
gathered for the State Age and Open Championships.
JCS
Performance and Peel regional swimmer, Abbey Vergone, had an incredible meet
achieving her National qualifying time for the 100m Backstroke.
Abbey
entered the event never having made a previous state final. Abbey entered 8 swims, made 5 finals, and
reserve for 2. She narrowly missed 3
other National qualifying times. Outstanding results!
Abbey
has been swimming with JCS Performance for only twelve months. This has been a very challenging period for
Abbey as she has had to learn a new way of training, with increased water and
gym sessions, and race strategies. This
was certainly the foundation for Abbey's excellent performance throughout the
State Meet.
James
Hornby, as head coach of the JCS Performance squad, is always looking for new
and innovative ways and ideas to allow swimmers to reach their full potential. The approach to coaching competitive-level
swimmers is fresh but incorporates over 20 years of coaching experience in the
Peel region.
Abbey’s
efforts at state level are testament of hard work, discipline and dedication
from both herself and also her coach.
James
& Abbey would like to thank Allgo Engineering and Lane Ford for their support
in helping Abbey achieve her goals.
